Create an opulent feel in a living room corner with a velvet upholstered occasion chair or armchair in a gorgeous teal colour. Dark-blue walls and an aqua side table add to the indulgence. The colours here are all quite similar, so to stop them blurring together, add a hit of pattern to break them up and create a visual contrast. Blue and green should never be seen, the old adage goes, but we disagree! Mix just about any blues with any greens and you’ve got yourself an effortlessly harmonious blend. Here, mellow blues and greens make a gentle backdrop for brighter hues like royal blue and lime – great if you favour a colour scheme with an energetic feel. Touches of pattern are good for breaking up blocks of colour.
Ground your industrial barn in a wall all in brick. This exposed wall winds down the staircase, across the fireplace and into the mood of a modern, semi-circular space. A distressed brick wall need not be painted or smoothed. Let its character shine with dainty crafted décor, like this mustard couch and fanned cane chair.
This Image Modern homes don’t have to be furnished in modern styles. Clean white walls make a fantastic backdrop to the ornate furniture in this room, letting it be the focal point of the space. Colourful cushions in contemporary prints give a nod to the age of the property. Soft pastels and pretty pink prints sit comfortably against the warm neutrals in this living room. The wallpaper features a delicate pattern and is paired with other designs in similar colours for a cohesive look.
