need to be a practical spaces with good storage and room to get your head down and crack on. However, practical doesn’t have to be mean boring, as these ideas prove. We’ve rounded up the best practical home office spaces that not only work for your, well, your work, but that also look great and are a pleasure to spend time in (however much you have on your to-do list or in your in-tray!). Whether you use your office for computer work, home and life admin or crafts and projects, we have lots of ideas for practical spaces for you to work in AND enjoy.
However small our living space, most of us appreciate having a specific area to store our paperwork and use our laptops. It keeps everything in one place, helps us stay on top of our complicated lives – and, if we make it enticing enough, will help us to be super-organised (well, in theory). If you work from home – which many of us do these days – it’s even more important to create a truly inviting workspace. That may be just a small table tucked neatly into an recessed area, a desk in the corner of the living room, or, if you’re lucky, a whole room to set up as a study with shelves and a filing cabinet.
This Image A redundant space on a landing, under the stairs or at the end of a long hallway can accommodate a desk that is used for short periods. Alternatively, stash office essentials in a purpose-built cupboard, complete with a desk and integrated task lighting. Then, at the end of the day, it can be shut away out of sight. If you work full time at home, its best to devote an entire space to the cause, as a cramped work area can be counterproductive. Consider converting a bedroom or the attic, both of which should be far enough from the hub of the house to be a quiet working environment.
